Our Story

How it all started...

The first Assemblies of God missionaries set foot on Baranof Island back in the early 1930's as they followed the call of God to begin ministry in Sitka. The Bruhn's were the first official Pastors of Sitka Assembly of God when it began in 1945. Since 1945 the church had a building down on Marine Street. It burned down and was rebuilt (the rebuilt church is still there with apartments).

In the late 1960's Brother Ralph Miller was the Pastor. The built the building we now meet in at 214 Kimsham Street. The education wing was added a couple years later but we honor and appreciate the work, ministry, and passion for those that led and were apart of the church family over the past 75+ years of ministry in Sitka. Those before us have left an incredible legacy. In early 2020, we were able to celebrate with a 75th Anniversary celebration weekend.

Expanding the vision...

We continue to have a passion for our community and the amazing people here in Sitka. Our presence in our community goes beyond a building and a name to being a vital part of what takes place in our community.

Where we are headed...

We believe that Jesus is the hope of all the world. In this season of chaos across the globe, there is only one place to turn, Jesus. He is still in control and desires to be the hope of our community. Our desire is to carry that hope, being the light of the world.

Your hope starts with Jesus and that's the only place it can start. As we carry Jesus and live the life He's created for us to live, the hope of those around us begins with us. Salvation is the just the beginning of all He has for you. Let's decide today, to follow Him and let Him use us to bring hope to all we can.
